Moody Bridal Editorial | Black Pearl on the Columbia | Washougal, WA

One of the coolest new industrial venues happens to be in Washougal, WA. It is this wedding designer’s dream. The Black Pearl on the Columbia boasts river views of the gorge & Mt. Hood from their floor to ceiling windows on both levels of the building. Its concrete finishes with pops of wood & exposed ceilings are a perfect setting for the modern couple who are fond of a clean, timeless look.

We gathered a team of really artistic vendors for this creative project. The vision was modern, edgy, editorial, and refined. We challenged ourselves to produce a design that was almost completely absent of white. It was exciting to see how each team member came together to create this look! Marisa from Revel Petals combined fresh local blooms in an organic arrangement to accent & soften the fireplace mantle, along with providing modern & quirky floral frog centerpieces for the tablescape. Whenever I style a black-heavy design, I’m mindful of making sure it doesn’t convey too dark of a mood. I love the power & depth that black adds to a palette, but I don’t want it to look gothic. For this particular tablescape, I chose to soften the effects of the black with organic grey textiles from Classic Vintage Rentals.

One of my favorite moments from this shoot was getting to watch Renee Bruhn in action. She applied a very fashion-forward editorial style makeup to our model, Amy Evans, and created a statement braided pony tail that stole the show. Because we opted for an extremely flowy, lightweight Carol Hannah gown, the hair & makeup really anchored the look we envisioned. Silvius James effortlessly directed the shoot and captured inspired images.

I’m so thankful to have gotten to work with such creative people! They pushed me to stretch my own design approach & professionally exceeded my expectations. Any of these vendors would make a solid addition to your team.
